- -> I'm having trouble getting compression to work on a MaxTech 14.4 internal
- -> modem. I've made all the changes to the initialization string the manual
- -> suggests. It does feature RPI based V.42bis/V.42/MNP2-5. Any help would be
- -> appreciated. Reply here or to plangdon@airmail.net
-
- As I understand it, RPI error correction and compression is handled in the
- software.... not the modem. If you are not using RPI software, say goodbye to
- those features.
-
- I can't imagine any reason (except it is cheaper) to move these functions out
- of the modem firmware. RPI seems more like RIPoff to me.
-
- The only modems that I have seen with RPI were the lowest priced modems. I
- have seen USR's RPI Sportster 14k for $40. No thanks.
